Investors in Diversity

Investors in Diversity logo

We are currently working with the National Centre for Diversity, having committed to the process towards attaining Investors in Diversity.

The award is a nationally recognised equality, diversity accreditation that recognises excellence in this area. Organisations that sign up to the process of Investors in Diversity & Leaders in Diversity aim to find out as much as possible from its staff and partners how well they feel the organisation promotes Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement (FREDIE) as part of its policies and practices.

A key part of the process is for both internal stakeholders (our team here), our colleagues and our suppliers to complete a questionnaire, to enable the appropriate people at the National Centre for Diversity to assess the organisation’s strengths and areas for development, and whether it meets the level required to be recognised as a fair, equal and inclusive organisation under the Investors in Diversity standard.

We are an accredited Living Wage Employer

We are a Living Wage Employer logo

We are proud to confirm that we have been accredited by the Living Wage Foundation since 9th Feb 2023. We are based in the East of England, a region where over 11% of jobs pay less than the real Living Wage - around 288,000 jobs. Despite this, Harlow College has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day's pay for a hard day's work.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 460,000 people and put £3 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We're delighted that Harlow College has joined the movement of over 14,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Everton Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Harlow College, believe that a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay."
